Director's Note

Dearest Reader,

I have always loved romance novels. Being swept away in a good romance book always made me feel better. I'm a sucker for love! Directing Of Marriage Minded Misses by Amanda Doig has been an absolute joy and a dream come true. With this world premiere Regency-era comedy, we've crafted an experience that blends wit, charm, and a classic flair, while diving into the timeless intricacies of love, societal expectations, and the quest for happiness with a good dose of laughter. And what a better time to do it, than the 75th Anniversary for Cambrian Players!

Bringing a new work to the stage is a collaborative feat, and I am so fortunate to have been surrounded by such a talented and dedicated team in all aspects of this production, from actors to designers, to front of house volunteers, and everything in between. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Cambrian Players Board of Directors for the incredible opportunity to return as a director for the world premiere of Of Marriage Minded Misses. Your trust, support, and commitment to bringing fresh, vibrant stories to the stage are inspiring. It has been an absolute honor to work alongside such a dedicated team.

And, finally, my deepest thanks go to Amanda Doig for writing such a perfectly crafted play. Amanda's sharp wit, understanding of human nature, and sense of period detail have given us a piece that's rich in both comedy and insight. Of Marriage Minded Misses is a play that feels timeless yet fresh, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to direct its first production.

Thank you to everyone involved for making this premiere a memorable experience—one that I hope our audiences will love as much as we have loved creating it.

Forever a Romance Reader,
Julie MacCoy

Run time: approximately 90min. There will be one 15 minute intermission.

Amanda Doig Playwright Amanda is extremely excited (and nervous) for the premiere of her first full length play, Of Marriage Minded Misses. Amanda has previously had eight 10 minute plays performed in the local 10x10 Showcase, two of which won First Place Audience Choice Favourite awards; and another play performed in the Newmarket 10 Minute Play Festival. Amanda loves all types of stories and grew up creating verbal stories with her Papa. She continues to share her love of stories with the daycare children she works with. When Amanda isn't writing, she can be found making a dent in her prodigious reading list (she's hit 200 books already this year, so why not 250 before Christmas?), enjoying margarita nights, or having adventures with the motley crew she calls her friends.

Cast

Katie Maki Eugenia Katie is ecstatic to be returning to the Cambrian stage after a short hiatus and could not have dreamt for a better show, cast, crew, or role to do it with! She's incredibly grateful for this opportunity and wants to thank everyone involved for making it such a wonderful experience!
Maranda Dumas Lady Bixby This show marks Maranda's 10 year anniversary of joining Cambrian Players! Since The War Show in 2014, she has become a fixture in Thunder Bay theatre. Recent onstage credits include Carrying a Torch (10x10) and Momologues 2 (Cambrian Players). Humbled to be sharing the stage with a powerhouse cast, Maranda hopes you laugh as hard as she is working not to from backstage.
Austin Campbell Thomas Hailing from London (no, not that one) originally, Austin is happy to call Thunder Bay his second home. He is grateful to work with Cambrian Players - last year on The Snow Queen and in two plays this season (including the one you're about to watch) - and hopes you see Thomas Bixby for who he is: the most handsome and honest of the whole lot!
Cady Dreger Francine Cady is thrilled to be making her debut with Cambrian Players in Of Marriage Minded Misses! Cady was last seen on stage as Jenni in The Chump List (Magnus Theatre's 10x10 Festival) and Sandra in The Play That Goes Wrong (Badanai Theatre). Off stage, Cady is a different kind of “marriage minded” in her new career as a family and estates lawyer. Ta!
Taylor Onski Camille Taylor (she/her) is thrilled to play a role that is TRULY out of her comfort zone: fidgety, anxious, and always taking things a bit too seriously... Much love to Bixby and Co. for embracing when she gets silly backstage and adding laughter and fun to her day.
Matthew Jollineau Andover Matthew is proud to be taking part in his second project with Cambrian, having previously appeared in Cambrian Player's 2023 production of A Christmas Carol. As a former staff member and current volunteer at Fort William Historical Park, he has a passion for period dramas. Matthew is a staff lawyer at the Kinna-aweya Legal Clinic.
Katya Arifin Marcus Katya's massive ego is only sated by pointing bright lights at their face. Thanks to everyone who has ever given them a lift to/from Cambrian. How long will they go without a driver's license? Who knows? Thanks especially to Katie and Emily who, one morning, watched them stagger out of their house with a half-toasted english muffin then spectacularly faceplant in their driveway. Everything is performance!
Dan Morrison Lord Boynton After his short yet rewarding experience in acting, (two very successful 10x10 Theatre Festival plays) Dan has reached the second hurdle and is jumping into his first role in a full length play. His excitement for this role, and the opportunity to work with many talented and welcoming people at Cambrian Players, has brought a fresh new curiosity to his creativeness, and hopes to explore more roles in the future.

Crew

Julie MacCoy Director Julie is so thrilled to be directing for the third time on her 20th year being involved with Cambrian Players! She's even more chuffed over the fact that she gets to direct a World Premiere by the talented Amanda Doig, with the most talented cast and crew involved. Recent directing credits include Vanya, Sonya, Masha, and Spike (Cambrian Players 2022) and Almost, Maine (Cambrian Players 2018), plus many 10x10 plays with the 10x10 Short Play Festival. When Julie isn't directing, she can often still be found at the theatre behind the scenes creating costumes, painting, or even on the stage acting! Julie would love to thank her family for being ok with her never being home and to her friends for understanding that she always has rehearsal. This one is for my Sophie. I love you kid 🩷
Nathalie Roy Stage Manager Nathalie has been enjoying working with this fun and talented group. Her most recent stage management credits include Snow Queen and Treasure Island. Thank you to Rory for being a theatre widower again and to Ashley and Ava for your support.
Nicholas Palinka Projection Designer Nicholas is very excited to work with Cambrian, following in the footsteps of his grandma Kay, who was a member of the Port Arthur Players.
Ariana McLean Props Design Ariana is thrilled to be backstage for this show, taking care of props! She would like to thank her partner Cole, her friends, and her family for their support of her passion for theatre and for always being her enthusiastic audience.

Special Thanks
